Entrée is the first solo exhibition for French. Comprising of drawings, paintings, collage and animation, the show is not linked by a theme, but rather an exploration of the artist’s quirky style and penchant for large eyes.
‘This eclectic mix of fun and frivolity, darkness and the unexpected marinated with whimsy and a subtle hint of garlic makes for a light hearted and entertaining exhibition,’ quips Sally French, a long time critic and avid follower of French’s work.
The exhibition features a series of portraits, birds, stills from films never made and melancholic fish people, as well as French’s complete collection of solo animations – including the ‘Footsises’ suite screened at the Natimuk Frinj Festival in 2007.
The works depict the dreams and imaginings of the artist in a playful and non-serious way. The works are small, with some simply drawn straight onto coloured mounting board and foam core. |
